Most civil ceremonies are symbolic. The bride and groom sign the marriage certificate at the town hall or civil registry office and then, at the venue, a ceremony is organized with an officiant or master of ceremonies.
The fact that, for legal purposes, the ceremony is not valid does not in any way detract from the importance of seriousness of the act. That day, you share with your loved ones your promise and commitment. And the ceremony will carry more emotional weight than any bureaucratic signature.
Many couples choose to symbolize their commitment to some ritual that represents the union. Among the best known is the sand ritual.
Do you know the origin of this ritual?
There are different versions about the real origin of this ritual, but in any of them, its meaning and what is represented there, is very similar.
Tradition says that each of the bride and groom brought a handful of sand from the area to which they belonged. That sand symbolizes the roots, where one comes from, what one is and what one brings to this new union.
When in marriage these lands are brought together, we are symbolizing a unique place, a single space where to take root and build a common project. Each grain of earth will be mixed, making that union indestructible because it will no longer be possible to separate those grains.
The bride and groom pour the two lands into a common vessel after reading of the vows and the previous explanation by the officiant of the meaning of this ritual.
This new container also becomes a precious symbol of your ceremony that you can keep at home and that will remind you of the commitment you have made.
PERSONALIZATION OF THE RITUAL
Our maxim is the personalization in weddings and that is why today I present you a variant of this ritual that seems to us to load even more of emotion the act.
It’s about inviting your family and friends to dedicate a wish, a feeling to “do their bit” in this union.
The guests will pour a handful of sand from your containers into the common container, while they dedicate a few words to you. I assure you, you will not forget. In this way you make those present participants in this act. It is magical the energy that is generated and how everyone enjoys the ceremony.
If you are in doubt as to whether people will want to participate or if you think no one will come out and tell you anything… You are so wrong. You should think that those present there love you and they all have beautiful wishes for you.
And if you still have doubts, you can always count on a couple of hooks to break the ice. As soon as the others see someone taking the first step, they will be encouraged to participate.
Now, tell me, have you thought of a ritual for your wedding?
